Antioxidants contribute to the protection of cells from free radicals (oxidative stress), caused for example by UV-rays, air pollution, cigarette smoke, ozone, or diets high in fat, sugar, and processed foods. Antioxidants found in foods include vitamins C and B2, the minerals zinc and selenium and select secondary plant compounds.
